Benefits of LED Light Bulbs.
Yielding light from electricity requires light bulbs and are a necessity for lighting dark areas. LED light bulbs and compact fluorescent (CFs) light bulbs are some of the commonly used light bulbs.LED light bulbs are solid-state lighting devices that are capable of fitting in standard screw-in connections and they utilize LED. The term LED is an abbreviation for light emitting diodes which are employed to produce light in LED light bulbs. The diode is a semiconducting chip that is able to produce visible light once electric current pass through it. Fluorescent bulbs filled with argon gas and a small amount of mercury are employed for use in compact fluorescent light bulbs. Argon gas and mercury in the fluorescent lamb are hit by negatively charged electrons produced when the cathode is heated. Mercury once excited produces ultra-violet light which is not visible by the human eyes. The UV light is then passed through a phosphor which causes it to emit more visible light. Mercury is a heavy metal being utilized by CFs light bulbs and very harmful to the human health hence the CFs light bulbs are not environmentally friendly.
The energy efficiency of the LED and CFs light bulbs varies considerably with the LED light bulbs being more efficient. Led light bulbs start lighting immediately once switched on without requiring time for warming up to generate light. Durability of LED light bulbs is key as they are not made out of glass other they are made of plastics which is highly durable. Thy work quite well in cold weather. LED and CFs light bulbs have the same lighting conditions although the LEDs last longer as use less energy making them cost effective.
Wattage of an LED light is not a major consideration but what should be keenly looked into is the lumen. Measurement of the brightness given off by a light bulb is what is referred to as lumen while the wattage is the measurement of the amount of energy a light bulb draws. For the same number of lumens, a CFs can draw energy a number of times more than LED light bulbs. Choosing an LED light bulb to purchase requires one to decide the color needed from the wide array of color ranges and where the bulb is to be used, A bright yellow color for an LED light bulb is shown by a small number of kelvins which are the unit for measuring color temperature. LED light bulbs require a direct current electrical power hence LED driver is required to convert the alternating current from the power supply.
Improved LED light bulbs have been developed with better efficiency, cost and output making them suitable for all environments. Fire may occur or failure of the LED light bulbs when compatibility with fixtures is not checked during installation.
